From basic needs like a loving family, safe housing, and life skills development, to more complex challenges like quality mental healthcare and economic empowerment – Auberle is a creative problem-solver, collaborative partner, and innovative program provider serving thousands of individuals and families annually across Pennsylvania annually. Auberle operates in an effective and efficient manner that is innovative, holistic, and collaborative.

Our five program areas — Workforce Development, Housing, Young Adult Services, Foster Care, and Behavioral Health — work together to strengthen participant success while collaborating with hundreds of partners each year.
    
Through a data-informed, results-driven approach, Auberle is producing cutting-edge human service program delivery to make a big impact in our region on homelessness, unemployment, mental health and more. The success of our region’s future depends on how well we collectively care for our most underserved populations. Auberle has been doing this and doing it well for 70 years. As a proven front-line agency and thought leader in the field of human services across Pennsylvania, we pride ourselves on our ability to formulate creative solutions to our community’s most complex needs.

Auberle stands at a defining moment. In 2027, the agency will mark 75 years of changing lives across the communities it serves, a milestone that is both a tribute to a long legacy of impact and a charge to build deliberately for what comes next.

The 2026-2029 Strategic Plan

This Strategic Plan for 2026-2029, shaped by the voices of staff, board, the individuals and families Auberle serves, community partners, funders, and legislators, carries that legacy forward and lays out the road ahead.

The plan rests on five Strategic Goals:

1.    Advance programs to meet evolving community needs
2.    Invest in the people and systems that strengthen how we serve
3.    Build unrestricted revenue to expand the mission
4.    Ready the Foundation for 75 more years
5.    Build a philanthropic growth engine for mission delivery
 
Together, these goals are carried forward through 20 Objectives, each supported by its own Initiatives and Actions, and the whole plan is powered by seven driving forces that cut across every goal: service, people, data, technology, partnership, stewardship, and leadership.

Building on the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan

This plan builds on the strong foundation laid by the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, which set out four areas of emphasis: Services, Human Capital, Operations and Sustainability, and Board. That ambitious plan was built on 64 objectives that pushed the agency to grow its reach, strengthen its teams, and build the infrastructure to sustain the mission. We are proud to report that 60 of those objectives were completed or operationalized, a 94% achievement rate, with the remaining four carrying forward into this new plan.

Along the way, Auberle added or expanded 28 programs across all five departments and grew contracted revenue by $12 million. The agency opened the Family Healing Center, the first program in the nation to keep families together during drug and alcohol treatment. It nearly quadrupled the number of people and families served in Housing and expanded the Employment Institute to South Central Pennsylvania. The four objectives carrying forward are long-horizon goals, and each one moves directly into the work ahead.

Looking Toward the Future 

As always, this Strategic Plan will serve as a living document that is regularly and purposefully monitored, evaluated, and revised as necessary to most effectively advance the mission Auberle stewards: building strong individuals, families, and communities. The next 75 years will begin here.

We measure the success of every client we serve in every program. Our results have earned us national recognition through awards such as “Agency of the Year” in the United States by the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities. Aramark awarded Auberle their national Community Organizational Leadership Award for effective outcomes while demonstrating “great leadership, strategic governance, a focus on equity, a culture of partnership and innovation, and a commitment to values-based advocacy” (Aramark national press release).

When the status quo isn’t working, we create new solutions. We are the first in the country to bring treatment to the entire family through our Family Healing Center to address neglect of children as a result of drug use by the caregiver. We effectively brought the Stop Now and Plan (SNAP®) program to the United States. Our 412 Youth Zone has been cloned in several places around the country including our facility in Crawford County.

We offer a wide range of integrated and trauma-informed services, both internal and through our partners, to meet our clients’ diverse needs. For example, a family entering our emergency housing may need to acquire job skills to be able to pay for permanent housing. A person seeking employment may need anger management training in order to keep a well-paying job. This can be found all under one roof at Auberle. 

We don’t have all the answers, so we build large networks of committed and inclusive partners to help us carry out our mission. Our hundreds of partners include for-profit companies, employers, clients, government agencies, funders, and other nonprofits.
