Culinary Arts Program Hosts Gala Dinner At Main Campus

Children participating in the Auberle Culinary Arts Program hosted a dinner as their final project. The kids invited their families, placing agencies, community employers, and other guests. The kids cooked the meal themselves, with the help of the program’s instructor.

All 5 kids participating in the program were joined by family members and special guests, who all dined together in the Program Center at the Main Campus. The children cooked the dinner in the Auberle kitchen.

The children who participated in the program were truly dedicated. One child, Bill C., was discharged from Auberle on 3/8/07, but he chose to continue in the program. He took the bus from McKees Rocks to Auberle’s campus in McKeesport two days a week since being discharged in order to participate in and complete the program.

The dinner was a huge success, and one that the kids can be proud of serving. The day after the event, one Allegheny County caseworker talked about the dinner to a co-worker. She could not stop talking about the great the food and even remarked that the dinner was "restaurant-quality". She also commented about how nice the linen table clothes and napkins made the overall experience. Most of all, she was impressed with the professionalism of the children who made the night so enjoyable.

She also said that Auberle has such a great overall program and is always doing great things for the residents.

Auberle’s Culinary Arts Program is offered to children between the ages of 16-18 who are interested in pursuing careers in the Food Service Industry. Graduates leave the program with the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain an entry-level position within Food Service.
