May Day Madness is day of fun and games that help Auberle’s children learn important life lessons such as citizenship, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This year saw participation from 11 teams, 22 volunteer coaches, 22 participating children, and as many as 50 spectators who enjoyed watching the games. Activities included such fun favorites as the water relay, beanbag toss and the story board game. Funds raised as a result of May Day Madness supports health, fitness, and recreation activities for Auberle children.

Why are health, fitness and recreation activities important?
Physical recreation is an important component of our programming for a number of reasons. 93% of our girls come to us with abuse in their history and at least 30% of our boys do so as well (this number is thought to be low as studies demonstrate under-reporting by boys). Abuse leaves youth without an interest in activities and education and they turn to less healthy coping mechanisms. By offering a wide variety of activities coupled with a supportive environment, we can improve their self-esteem and get them re-engaged. Such activities also allow children the opportunity to bond with adults, which furthers their development and increases their trust.

Many thanks to our sponsors who helped make the day such a tremendous success
