Auberle’s 2nd Annual Voices Carry, presented by Sky Bank, was, to say the least an amazing success.  This year’s Voices Carry was held on Tuesday evening, September 19th, 2006, in the East Hall at Heinz Field.

Voices Carry can only be described as a night of great singing, good food, and a whole lot of fun.  Attendees bid to sing with or be serenaded by their favorite celebrity singer – and there were more than a few in attendance this year.  This year, we added a twist to the bidding -- throughout the night, guests continued to make sure that their favorite singer stayed on top of the talent ranking list by continuing to bid on their performance.

This year’s list of celebrity singers read like a list of “who’s who” in Pittsburgh.  Leading the way -- Pittsburgh rock icon Donnie Iris, joined by other prominent, talented musicians including, Jessica Lee, Sandy Dowe, Rob James and Greg Joseph of the Clarks, Etta Cox, and B.E. Taylor.  Along with emcee Randy Baumann of WDVE, other celebrities also committed to supporting Auberle by singing at Voices Carry, including Jim Krenn and Val Porter of WDVE, Sally Wiggin and Mike Clark of WTAE-TV, Jon Burton of WTAE-TV, and Trenni Kusnierek of Fox Sports.  Auberle also welcomed Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith and former Steelers linebacker Robin Cole.

Among the many highlights of the evening, Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl not only attended Voices Carry, but generously agreed to auction a dance with himself and a guest, with Etta Cox as the featured singer.  It generated so much interest that Mayor Ravenstahl danced with four of the Voices Carry guests.

Live, silent and Chinese auctions continued throughout the night for those who wished to take a chance of walking away with one of several fabulous prizes, including a Troy Polamalu autographed football, a wine basket, roundtrip tickets from Southwest Airlines, bed and breakfast at the Sheraton Station Square or Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh, Pirate Tickets, chocolates from Exquisite Cocoa, a weekend at Seven Springs, a golf package, artwork and more.

Although the night is always intended as a night of entertainment and fun, those involved with the production hoped to introduce the community to the work and mission of Auberle: helping children and families to heal themselves.  Auberle’s goal is to present a compelling story, ultimately resulting in an increase in community involvement with the organization.  This was perhaps this year’s biggest achievement, with over 150 new people being introduced to Auberle and our work with children and families.

Overall, the 2nd Annual Voices Carry had 445 total people in attendance, of which 150 were new to Auberle.  Voices Carry also raised approximately $75, 000.  We are looking forward to making next year’s event even more fun.
