3, 2007 marked the culmination of the 2nd Annual "Celebration
of Reading" program at the New Hazlett Theater.
This year’s program, presented by Prime Theater
and the Tickets for Kids Foundation, focused on The
Diary of Anne Frank, which chronicles the struggles
of a Jewish family in hiding from the Nazis during World
War II, as told through the eyes of the youngest daughter.
For
the project, Auberle students created study groups and
read the book. Under the guidance of agency mentors,
they “interpreted” the book through the
creation, projects that allowed them to express their
personal perspectives of the subject.
The
Auberle projects were unveiled before the night’s
special Prime Stage performance of The Diary of Anne
Frank, which all of the children who participated got
to attend.
Auberle
teacher Jeanne Shaffer presented the Auberle projects
to the other 18 agencies, representing 200 participating
children. According to her, the evening was "absolutely
marvelous".
Auberle’s
kids also got a special treat during the course of the
evening – a visit with the new Steelers mascot.
As a result, the kids will be involved in the contest
to name the new mascot.
Perhaps
most importantly, the participating Auberle children
had an unbelievable experience.
