Children
from Auberle were fortunate to be able to attend the
DigiPen Project Fun® summer workshops hosted by
DigiPen University and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh
from July 30 to August 10, 2007. The program was held
at Point Park University in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The
workshops are designed to provide children the opportunity
to learn more about technology, computer science, and
the gaming industry. Through collaboration with the
Pittsburgh Technology Council and Catalyst Connection,
the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh offered as many
as 50 scholarships to underprivileged students throughout
the area. Four Auberle students attended the workshop.
The
program, developed by DigiPen University in Redmond,
Washington, uses game development as a way to entice
young people into exploring careers in Information Technology.
Both
Auberle students successfully completed the program
and were awarded a $200 stipend as a result. More importantly,
the kids learned about the impact of technology on their
lives, and had a great time attending the workshops.
